Ahonen wins by a 0.4 point margin

In Sunday's event in Engelberg, Switzerland, Janne Ahonen completed the weekend double. He jumped 134 and 135 metres, beating Jakub Janda (133,5 and 130 metres) and Martin Hoellwarth (130 and 133,5 metres). Adam Małysz was 5th with his two efforts of 122.5 and 133 metres.

Today, rainy and windy weather has changed the competition into a lottery. In the first round, only two ski jumpers managed to surpass the distance of 130 metres: Jakub Janda did it first, floating 133,5 metres. Just like yesterday, Ahonen floated further (134 metres) but it was Janda who won the first round on points. After the first leg, Janda was in first place, ahead of Ahonen and Martin Hoellwarth (130 metres).

Before the second round, the launch was moved up from gate 20 to gate 21, but only few jumpers improved their results from the first round. In repeat of Saturday's final round, Janne Ahonen sacrified style for distance and jumped 135 metres. His marks for technique varied from 15.5 to 17 and it seemed that Jakub Janda had a big chance to earn his first World Cup victory. But Janda jumped only 130 metres and despite his smooth landing and very good style marks, he didn't manage to overtake Ahonen. The Finn won for the seventh time by a slim 0.4 point margin.

Three Poles: Krystian Długopolski, Robert Mateja and Adam Małysz entered today's competition. Długopolski, after a feeble effort of 99 metres, finished in 45. place. Robert Mateja pulled up short in the final round and settled for 27. place (115 and 113,5 metres). After two jumps of 122,5 and 133 metres, Adam Małysz took 5th.

The next World Cup competition and the first event of the Four Hills Tournament will be held in Oberstdorf, Germany, on 29 December.
