Ljoekelsoey wins the second event in Sapporo

In the second event in Sapporo, where strong blasts of winds and heavy snow falls disrupted the competition, Norway's Roar Ljoekelsoey was the one who dealt with bad weather conditions in the best way possible. He won with a huge advantage over Finland's Risto Jussilainen and Austria's Thomas Morgenstern.

In the first round, Ljoekelsoey was the one to surpass the distance of 130 metres: he made an amazing effort of 137,5 metres nad took the lead with an advantage of 16.2 points over Germany's Ferdinand Bader, who jumped 128,5 metres. Ljoekelsoey's second leap of 137 metres guaranteed him the highest place on the podium: he won with a total of 292.1 points.

In the second leg, Risto Jussilainen, who was fifth after his first round attempt of 122 metres, made the longest jump of the day- 139 metres. This effort let him take second place in the final. Thomas Morgenstern also improved his first-round fourth place with his second round effort of 126 metres and moved to third place. His compatriot Martin Hoellwarth finished just one point behind him.

Ferdinand Bader, the vice-leader after the first round, spoiled his second jump: his 109,5 metres saw him in fifth place. However, it is still his best World Cup result so far.

Saturday's winner, Kazuyoshi Funaki, finished in 10th place with jumps of 90 metres and 103 metres. Other Japanese, Noriaki Kasai, was seventh. Once again, the Japanese favourite Daiki Ito made a disappointing performance: with 82 metres only, he took 33rd place.

In the absence of Adam Małysz and Jakub Janda, Roar Ljoekelsoey took second place in the World Cup standings and is now 448 points behind the leader, Janne Ahonen.
