One week before the World Cup final competition, Matti Hautamaeki made his fifth consecutive win in the HS 128 event in Oslo-Holmenkollen. Bjoern Einar Romoeren was second, while Michael Uhrmann completed the podium in third. With a remarkable effort of 134 metres, Andreas Widhoelzl replaced Sven Hannawald as the hill record holder.

Matti Hautamaeki took the lead after his first-round jump of 127,5 metres. In the second leg, he floated 128 metres and was rewarded with an impressive note of 281.4 points. Much to the delight of home crowd and the royal family who had come to cheer Norwegian competitors, second place was taken by Bjoern Einar Romoeren (124 and 128 metres). Germany's Michael Uhrmann finished third with two tidy jumps of 124,5 and 127,5 metres.

The jump that made the crowd gasp in delight was the second-round attempt by Andreas Widhoelzl. The Austrian soared to an amazing 134 metres, smashing Sven Hannawald's hill record by 0,5 metres. His impressive result let him move from 12th to 5th position.

Janne Ahonen, who had already secured his World Cup overall title after the event in Lillehammer, could only seize 18th position after two tepid efforts of 121 and 116,5 metres. Poland's Adam Małysz made two modest jumps of 117,5 and 118,5 metres and finished in 19th place just behind Ahonen. Other Polish jumpers Kamil Stoch and Robert Mateja didn't enter the top 30, after their poor efforts of 114 and 104,5 metres.

Next weekend, the World Cup circuit is moving to the ski flying hill in Planica for the last two events of the season.
